Fishbone ripped the Key Club a new one last Friday, December 28th. Shortly after midnight, the curtain opened and Angelo, Dirty Walt, Norwood and crew were ready to skank-funk our faces off. They opened with the classic number, “Sunless Saturday” and the mosh pit erupted into absolute mayhem. Bodies flying everywhere and a magical feeling all around that only a Fishbone show can produce.
This has to be at least my 50th time seeing the band and it’s still just as exciting and inspiring as the first time. Back to the show.. it was a mix of old and new with songs like “Crazy Glue” and “Deep Shit Backstroke” off the recently released Crazy Glue EP. Ska jams like “Skankin’ to the Beat”, “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”, “Alcholic” and “Give It Up” kicked the party into ultra nuttiness. “Everyday Sunshine”, “Bonin’ in the Boneyard”, and the band’s incredible rendition of Curtis Mayfield’s “Freddie’s Dead” were top shelf show stoppers. “Party at Ground Zero” concluded the epic evening and everyone went home a happy sweaty mess. If you don’t know Fishbone, you don’t know music. Happy New Year!
